I just recieved this response to one of my videos......
Now here's the WARNING......I'm not endorsing this as a tried and tested method because I've not had a chance yet to test it myself, but I am interested in anyones comments with regards to this and have they used this method and does it work and what sort of results did you get.
Good video. a small tip: I've found that adding a TINY amount of water to the meths in the burner doesn't affect it's efficiency, but certainly prevents the base of the pans getting "sooty", so to speak!
After spending an extensive 5 minutes googling this, I found someone else mentioning this in 2007, worth a try I guess, not sure how it works though, I theorise that it might be something to do with lowering the surface area on top of the meths durring the initial burn phase. Once it gets hot enough the water will evaporate anyway....
ReplyDeleteI've not read up on the claim, I'm just going to give it a go and post my findings here. But I share your thoughts on the water burning off pretty fast, but I will give it a try later and we will see...
ReplyDeleteOk the testings been done, the results are in, and here's my verdict. I setup two Trangia burners, loaded them with the same ammount of meths, and added a tiny ammount of water to one of them.......ok the one with the water in would not light....so I figured maybe too much water, so I drained it off, flush it with meths, burnt it with pure meths, then run the test again, but with the smallest ammout of water, and it sucks, wont light, dont light, give it up....
